Institutional Research offers an online-survey service to EKU faculty and staff through online software.
This service allows for the creation, distribution, tracking, and summary of online surveys. It has the capability to build surveys with several question types (including one choice, multiple choice, yes/no, rating scales, and open ended). The survey links are then emailed to targeted groups or placed on a website for completion online. All data is automatically and conveniently stored in spreadsheet format.
We will create, launch, and maintain your online surveys for you. Listed below are specific criteria we require for the creation and administration of your surveys.
Due to resource limitations, we are not able to offer this service to student groups, and we cannot provide services for dissertation or other personal publication/grant/research purposes. We also do not create or administer academic examinations (i.e. classroom tests, quizzes). However, we are always available to provide consultation on creating a valid survey instrument. Consultation services are free and open to anyone on campus.
CRITERIA
Information needed from you:
- The exact wording and the exact order of survey questions, in electronic format.
- For objective questions, answer responses and/or answer choices must be included (open ended responses are acceptable)
- Specific text for the Invitation and Thank You pages.
- A starting and closing date for the survey collection.
- An electronic file of email addresses to whom the survey is to be administered, or the URL of the webpage on which the survey is to be posted.
Services provided by IR:
Institutional Research will create your survey, launch it on the starting date, close it at the appropriate time, and submit to you the raw data in spreadsheet format and, if desired, simple frequency distributions of objective items and verbatim responses of open-ended items. Due to resource limitations, IR will not create, duplicate and distribute paper surveys, letters or survey notifications. IR will help to develop a sound and quality research project using our survey service. This includes help in developing the method of research used, development of questions, and the analysis of results.
Time Frame:
We require a minimum of two weeks before the survey's start date to create and run a trial of the survey.
We recommend that surveys be active for two weeks.
Raw data and simple frequencies and open-ended responses will be sent to the participating area within two weeks after the closing date.
IMPORTANT:
The Office of Institutional Research reserves the right, in consultation with the survey's sponsor(s), to edit the survey for purposes of brevity, clarity and/or appropriateness. Further, the Office reserves the right to refuse any survey or
survey data that does not meet with University standards.
If you have general questions about our survey service or other aspects of our office please call Institutional Research at 622-2015.
